Welcome to the Dolphin House
A Child Advocacy Center Serving
Child and Adolescent Victims of Abuse
and Their Families
The Dolphin house serves the 7th Judicial District in western Colorado. Counties include: Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel.
The Dolphin House is a child-friendly, safe facility whose purpose is to provide your child with a place for telling a difficult story during a necessary investigation of child abuse and offer supportive counseling to you and your child.
The Dolphin House serves as a central place where agencies such as human services, law enforcement, mental health, the District Attorney's Office, victim's advocates, and a physician and/or nurse can coordinate and deliver their services to your child. As a result, your child experiences a process that is more efficient and beneficial, thus reducing the likelihood of further trauma. We believe this helps to ensure that this process of investigation, prosecution and treatment will be a time of healing for your child.
The Dolphin House coordinates the interview, prosecution and treatment processes. Agencies and professionals conduct these activities. It is through these agencies and professionals that you will be working to find the best possible solution for the child. The role of the Dolphin House is to help ensure that any actions taken are ". . . in the best interest of the child."
Communities that have developed a child advocacy center experience many benefits:
- More immediate follow-up to child abuse reports
- More efficient medical and mental health services or referrals
- Reduction in the number of child victim interviews
- Increased successful prosecution
- Consistent support for child victims and supportive adults
